Love Language

When Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages, was re-introduced, many were engaged to learn their “language” when giving and receiving love. And naturally, we wanted all of ‘em! During this time, I worked with children & families, and pondered on the ways children express themselves, which oftentimes is done in a language that’s taught or comforting to them. Chapman’s insight helped people recognize the ways they feel the most loved in friendships and relationships:

  1. Acts of Service- Someone doing a task without you asking: Cooking your partner a meal or tackling a household chore
  2. Quality Time- Giving your partner/friend your undivided attention by setting aside time to spend together: Date nights or an impromptu girls trip to the spa
  3. Receiving Gifts- Tokens of love through meaningful gifts: His favorite dessert or the new perfume from Carolina Herrera (her favorite brand)
  4. Physical Touch- You love being embraced by touching, holding hands in public, or generous amounts of affection
  5. Words of Affirmation- You love hearing “Thank You!”, “I Love You”, and verbal expressions of appreciation
