You vs. Me

“Putting mayo on a bologna sandwich works for you, not me.”

Personally, mustard is tastier but to the next individual, chipotle, ketchup, or just bread and bologna will suffice. And that’s perfectly O-K. The statement applied to a discussion on not comparing the way you do something vs. someone else, while still respecting everyone’s choice. In music, many artists sample and create remakes in their own style. For example:

  • If Only You Knew by Patti LaBelle (1983) vs. KeKe Wyatt (2001)
  • All Night Long by Mary Jane Girls (1983) vs. Mary J. Blige (1995)
  • Love’s Train by Con Funk Shun (1982) vs. Dru Hill (1996) vs. Silk Sonic (2022)

Our Aunties and Unc’s may enjoy the original version, Millennials may prefer the 90’s version, and Gen Z likely never heard the original and only heard the 90’s version from a Tik Tok incorporated with dance moves. And that’s still perfectly O-K.

Life is no different. It’s easy to look at someone else’s journey and emulate the steps it took to get there. The key is figuring out your end goal and breaking it down into smaller steps (daily, weekly, monthly) at a pace that works for you.
